Welcome to English Language Arts (ELA) Summer Institute 2012!

During this institute, we will model a technology-enabled learning environment as we collaborate with colleagues on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. This site will be available once you leave the Institute, thus making it an online resource as you return to support teachers in your district or Charter School. Use the links in the navigation bar to the left to help you navigate through the wiki.

This Summer Institute will enable participants to...
  • navigate the CCSS document and find new information.
  • review the three shifts and apply their understanding to classroom instruction.
  • build an understanding of the CCR Anchor Standards for Reading using a text.
  • learn copyright laws and where to safely access texts.
  • identify criteria for choosing rich and worthy texts.
  • identify Tier 2 words and determine which ones to teach.
  • create text-dependent questions using a complex text of their choice.
  • address students' needs in the context of new standards.
  • gain understanding of the integration of standards, explore lessons, and develop a plan for lesson design.

“The digital tools used during this presentation have been helpful to some educators across the state. However, due to the rapidly changing digital environment, NCDPI does not represent nor endorse that these tools are the exclusive digital tools for the purposes outlined during this presentation.”
